ESQUILACHE MUTINY

Who was Esquilache?
He was an Italian minister during the rule of Charles III

What were the reasons of the mutiny?
There were several reasons because Esquilache imposed various measures:
a) The rising costs of bread, oil, coal and meat
b) The liberalization of the grain trade
c) Spanish people hated his Italian origin
The last straw was the replacement of the wide-brimmed hat for the three-cornered hat (French style) and the obligation of wearing shorts capes. He wanted to improve public safety.

When did the mutiny start?

It started in 1766 and Esquilache leaved Spain.
The rioters wanted only Spanish ministers in the government and a lower price of basic goods.

¿Qué es la Mesta?

Spanish Enlightenment

In relation to the Esquilache Mutiny, here you have a video which, in my opinion, would be really useful in order to understand the events and reasons of the riot.

CAMBIO DE AIRES

Cambiamos de aires y nos convertimos en un blog en inglés. Mantendremos el francés como primera lengua, aunque a partir de ahora las entradas serán en otro idioma, para así hacer un blog trilingüe.
